  1. pastor Shanks,I learned the Christian Life there in 1967 thur Eldon Martens and Joe Riley.Do you know where these men are today?Do you know about Back To The Bible Broadcast?Theodore Epp is my wifes uncle.Cathy and I married in 1974.Is there anyone at your church that was there in 1967?

    • Hi Ron, Your name is familiar, thou I can’t put a face to it. I was saved thru Eldon’s ministry at Calvary in 1971, while attending Cal Poly. Delighted to see the ministry is continuing. I hope it is thriving. The grounding I rec’d in the word and godliness has been a bulwark through the years. Currently in Pleasant Hill and continuing to serve god daily. Last I heard of Pastor Riley, he was in Fremont, but that was many years ago. God Bless

    • Hey Ron, This is James Woodley. We roomed together at Baptist BIble College in Clarks Summit. I remember you. I now Pastor in Clovis California at Central Baptist Church. It is where Eldon Martens was the previous pastor. Sorry to tell you he passed away a few months ago. Maybe you already heard. Just dropped dead of a heart attack. He was about 70 years old. I was actually the Pastor at Calvary Baptist in San Luis about 20 years ago, also. Many wonderful memories there. Hope you get this reply.

  2. Eldon and Martha Martens are friends of mine and they live just outside of Fresno, CA. I do not personally know Joe Riley and am not sure where he is today. George Hill and his step-daughter Barbara Strike would be the only folks left from 1967. I believe George came about that time.

  3. I graduated from cal poly in 1994 and I love SLO and the fond memories at Calvary baptist. I like knowing of your faithfulness and I love the website and new look. I knew the Felds, the Blankenships, and the Reyes families. Are any of those families still there? God bless you.

    • No, those families are no longer here. We would love to have you stop in if you are ever through here, though.

    • Hey Brother Hugo! I happened to look at this web site and saw your name. I don’t know if you remember me, but you and two other students at Cal Poly taught me how to use the computer when I was the Pastor there. I have often thought about you. Love to hear from you. I am the Pastor of Central Baptist Church in Clovis, California.

      • hi pastor Woodley. Of course I remember you. The Lord used your influence in my life through the years. I’m thankful for your faithful ministry. I’ll look for you at the central Baptist website. Blessings.

        Hugo

  4. Visited your church today (Jan 22, 2012) and really enjoyed the service. We are looking for a church to go to. The music was good and the message was good and everyone was very friendly. However, we have a friend that we would like to come back with us but he says the piano and organ are too loud and he said he can’t hear the other instruments the young people are playing. He likes that you sing from the hymnals. I know you can’t accomodate everyone but I just wanted to let you know. Thank again for the good service today.

  5. Lived in SLO back in 1982 while attending Cal Poly, and was also a member of the Church. Are the Reyes family still around?. Please give my regards and pass my email. Jaime from Peru, South America

    • Hi Jaime. No, the Reyes are not still at CBCSLO, but we would love to have you with us if you ever get back up here!

  6. Are you not posting your messages online anymore? I can’t seem to find the link now.

    • No, we are not. One of our men was doing that for a while.

  7. I ran into your Children while on our 40th anniversary get away at the Farmers market in SLO. What a joy it was to see your presence at this venue, as well as your family taking a stand for the Gospel of Christ. What a blessing. Pastor Ray Shull First Baptist Mariposa, CA

  8. Hi. This is Larry Steinke. I attended CBC from 1987 through 1992. It is nice to see some familiar names in the other posts. Hugo and I are still best friends. We still talk about the wonderful lessons, sermons and stories from Paator Woodley. Wonderful times in our lives. My best to CBC. My wife and I actually stopped by briefly on an off day probably six years ago or so. It was good to meet pastor Shanks.

    God bless you all.

    • Thank you for your comment. We would love to see you if you are back in the area again.

  9. I just saw this post. Looking for Theodore Epp! I grew up listening to him on the radio with my Grandma, from 1966 and on! I am now 60 years old. I need alot of Prayers, please! Thank you!

  10. Hey, Memory Lane neighbors, I am John Parker of Merced, California. I returned to the Lord in the spring of 1970 while attending Cal Poly. The church’s Campus Pastor, Eldon Martens, really helped me by frequently meeting with me over coffee at the Olive Tree Restaurant. Joe Riley was the pastor, and after Eldon moved on, Joe invited me to be the Youth Pastor for the summer of 1972. I love both of those dear brothers!
