Good News

You know that there is a God and that He has a moral code to which you ought to adhere (Romans 1:19-20; 2:14-15). You may not realize, though, that it is impossible for you to live up to this moral code. Romans 3:10 says that there is no one who is righteous, no, not one. Following after morality and good deeds will do nothing to gain you entrance into heaven. In fact, the Bible is very clear in Titus 3:5 that it is not by works of righteousness which you have done. Quite the contrary, Romans 6:23 tells you that the payment for your sin is death; this is eternal separation from God in a terrible place called Hell (Revelation 20:10-15).

So how can this be good news? Because God loved you in spite of your sin, and, according to Romans 5:8, showed His love toward you in that, while you were yet a sinner, Christ died for you. You see, Christ died in order that you might be free from the penalty of your sin; He took your place in death. My friend, God so loved you, that He gave His only begotten Son, that if you would believe in Him you would not perish, but have eternal life (John 3:16).

Romans 10:9 says that if you believe in your heart that God raised Jesus from the dead, you will be saved. Christ has done it all for you; have you put your faith and trust in Him and Him alone? He has promised to save all those who call upon Him (Acts 16:31). Will you not do that today?

  1. Acknowledge your absolute unworthiness to live in the presence of God and your total sinfulness before Him (Romans 3:23).

  2. Realize that you deserve eternal death in Hell because of your sin against an holy God (Romans 6:23).

  3. Understand that Jesus paid it ALL for you and that there is nothing more that you need to complete the payment for your sin (Romans 5:8).

  4. Believe or trust in His finished work of grace and love (Romans 10:9-10).

Once you have done this, it is your responsibility to walk in such a way so as to please Him (I Thessalonians 4:1). This is not in order to keep your eternal life, but to be in obedience to Christ and to show to others the new life you have in Him (Romans 6:14-16; James 2:18).
